Watching your baby grow and develop is one of the greatest joys of parenthood. Milestones are skills that most babies can do by a certain age across four areas: motor, language, social, and cognitive development.
1 to 2 Months
Lifts head briefly during tummy time, follows faces with eyes, responds to sounds, makes cooing sounds, and smiles socially by 2 months.
3 to 4 Months
Holds head steady, pushes up on arms during tummy time, reaches for objects, laughs and squeals, and may start rolling from tummy to back.
5 to 6 Months
Rolls both ways, sits with support, transfers objects between hands, babbles with consonant sounds, and shows interest in food.
7 to 9 Months
Sits independently, starts crawling, pulls to stand, picks up small objects with pincer grip, understands no, and waves bye-bye.
10 to 12 Months
Cruises along furniture, may take first steps, points to objects, says 1 to 3 words with meaning, and follows simple instructions.
When to Talk to Your Paediatrician
Discuss with your doctor if by 3 months your baby does not smile, by 6 months does not reach for objects, by 9 months does not babble, or by 12 months does not use any words or gestures.
