Vaccinations are one of the most important things you can do to protect your baby. India has both a government Universal Immunisation Programme and additional vaccines recommended by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics.
At Birth
BCG for tuberculosis, OPV oral polio first dose, Hepatitis B first dose. These are given at the hospital before discharge.
6 Weeks
DTwP or DTaP, IPV injectable polio, Hib, Hepatitis B second dose, Rotavirus first dose, PCV pneumococcal.
10 and 14 Weeks
Second and third doses of DTwP or DTaP, IPV, Hib, Rotavirus, and PCV.
Managing Post-Vaccination Fever
Mild fever up to 38.5 degrees and fussiness are normal for 1 to 2 days. Use paracetamol drops in the dose your paediatrician recommends. Call your doctor if fever exceeds 39 degrees or lasts more than 2 days.
