Diaper Rash: How to Treat and Prevent It Effectively

Diaper rash is a common form of inflamed skin that appears as a patchwork of bright red skin on your baby's bottom. It is often related to wet or infrequently changed diapers, chafing, and sensitive skin.

Common Causes

Prolonged contact with wet diaper, introduction of new foods, antibiotic use, and fungal yeast infections are the most frequent causes.

Treatment

Keep it dry: Change diapers frequently, at least every 2 to 3 hours and immediately after every bowel movement.

Barrier cream: Apply a thick layer of zinc oxide cream like Himalaya Diaper Rash Cream at every change.

Air time: Let your baby go diaper-free for 10 to 15 minutes a few times a day. Fresh air helps heal irritated skin faster.

When to See a Doctor

If the rash has bright red raised dots around the edges it may be a yeast infection. See your paediatrician if the rash does not improve in 2 to 3 days.
