Formula Feeding Your Baby: A Complete Guide for Indian Parents

Formula feeding is a valid and healthy choice. Whether you are unable to breastfeed, have returned to work, or have chosen formula for personal reasons, your baby can thrive.

Choosing a Formula

For healthy full-term babies, standard cow-milk based infant formula is recommended. Popular options in India include Nan Pro, Similac Advance, Enfamil A+, and Dexolac. Consult your paediatrician before switching brands.

How Much to Feed

Newborns take 60 to 90 ml per feed every 2 to 3 hours. By 2 months, 120 to 150 ml every 3 to 4 hours. By 4 months, 120 to 180 ml every 4 hours.

Preparing Formula Safely

Always use boiled water cooled to at least 70 degrees Celsius. Measure powder with the scoop provided, levelling it off. Never add extra powder as this can harm your baby's kidneys.

Bottle Sterilisation

Sterilise all bottles and teats before each use for babies under 6 months. Boiling in water for 5 minutes is effective and free. After 6 months, thorough washing with hot soapy water is generally sufficient.
